August 14, 2016 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Spokane Indians News Release
Spokane, WA - The Indians just can't figure out how to beat the Eugene Emeralds - they aren't alone. Spokane rallied late but couldn't complete the comeback as the seemingly unstoppable Emeralds ran their league-best record to 40-15 with a 4-2 win over the Indians in front of 4,618 fans at Avista Stadium for Create Your Own Cheer Sign Day Game presented by Rockwood Health System and K-102 Country.
Eugene has now won seven of eight against the Indians this season and 10 games in a row overall. The Emeralds received another big night at the plate from third baseman Wladimir Galindo who went 2-for-4 with his league-leading eighth home run. The burly slugger from Maracay, Venezuela now has six hits, six RBI and has scored three times in the series.
Spokane fell despite an outstanding start from Kyle Cody (2-3) who struck out seven over six frames without a walk while allowing just two runs. The former University of Kentucky star has now permitted just four runs over his last three outings totaling 16 innings to lower his ERA to 3.57 on the season.
The Indians had a chance in the eighth as they scored twice on a wild pitch and an RBI ground out from Seth Spivey but catcher Alex Kowalczyk lined out to right field with the bases loaded to end the threat. Blaine Prescott reached base four times on two singles and a pair of walks while Leody Taveras, Charles Leblanc and Chad Smith all had one hit in defeat. The loss dropped Spokane to 8-9 in the second half and 27-28 overall.
