Spokane Chiefs News Release
The Spokane Chiefs tied their best-of-seven series with the Everett Silvertips with a 3-1 win on Wednesday night in the Arena. The Chiefs and 'Tips have each won twice on their home ice and the series will revert back to the Everett Events Center for game five on Friday night. The win guaranteed Spokane will play on Sunday night at 6:00 at home in game six.
Dustin Tokarski earned first star status with 29 saves and only one blemish on the night, a funny bounce that ended up in the back of the net off the stick of Peter Mueller just 3:31 into the game. Everett dominated the shot totals with a 20-8 advantage through two periods, including 10-3 in the first, but Spokane used a three goal third to come back for the win.
The game was tied at 3:35 of the third when David Rutherford finished a goal mouth flurry that was started by 19-year-old Chris Bruton. Bruton's original shot was stopped and Rutherford was able to crash the net and score his second of the series.
The eventual game winner was tallied by Derek Ryan, who scored his second in as many nights on a feed by Ondrej Roman. As Roman skated behind the Everett net he sent it behind him to the left post to a waiting Ryan. The goal came at the 11:00 minute mark.
Spokane's Chris Bruton, from Drayson Bowman, scored an empty netter at 17:08 for the final score.
Tokarski stopped nine shots in the third and several others were blocked at the point by Chiefs forwards to help the cause.
Tickets for game six in Spokane on Sunday will go on sale Thursday morning at the Chiefs office by calling (509) 535-PUCK. The office will be open on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Ticket holders should use ticket number three for Sunday's game.
Mike Boyle will go on the air Friday night at 7:00 with Comcast Hockey Tonight on KJRB 790 the Fan. The puck will drop at 7:35.
