October 14, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Spokane Chiefs News Release
Spokane, Wash. -- The Spokane Chiefs fully support the state mandate announced by Washington state Governor Jay Inslee on Thursday afternoon requiring COVID vaccination or negative test for large indoor events. The mandate will go into effect on November 15 for all indoor events of 1,000 attendees or more.
Beginning with the team's home game on Friday, November 19 versus Seattle, all fans attending games will need proof of vaccine or negative test within 72 hours to be admitted by Spokane Arena personnel.
"Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have supported and followed the advice of local and state health authorities regarding best practices to battle COVID," said the Chiefs' Vice President of Business Operations Jay Stewart. "Our top priority remains the health and safety of our fans, staff and players.
"It is important to us to provide a game atmosphere that is comfortable and welcoming for all fans. We encourage fans to follow the advice of health experts and get vaccinated to help our community."
Options are being determined for fans who have already purchased tickets and will be unable to meet the mandate or testing requirement. Those options will be announced as soon as they are available.
Admission to the building, including verification of proof of vaccine or negative test, is handled by Spokane Arena security staff. As detailed in the Governor's announcement, proof of vaccine includes: CDC immunization records card, photo of the CDC card, or a printout or screenshot of certificate from the Washington Department of Health (wa.myir.net). Tests eligible for the 72-hour negative result must be administered and processed by healthcare professionals.
