
Spitfires Win 6-5 in Flint

The Spitfires and Firebirds had a barn burner in Flint on Saturday evening with 11 total goals in the game and the Spitfires picking up a crucial 2 points.
In the first period, Colton Smith got the Spitfires on the board just 37 seconds into this one. The lead only lasted 90 seconds as Flint would tie it up. The Firebirds would respond with 2 more goals to take a 3-1 lead just 10 minutes into the game. The Spitfires would then respond with three goals of their own. Peer scored shorthanded to make it a 3-2 game with just over 8 minutes left in the frame. Just two minutes later, Christopoulos would tie the game at 3 on the powerplay. Exactly 3 minutes later, Greentree would tip in the first of his OHL career to give the Spitfires a 4-3 lead heading into the intermission.
In the second period, Maggio would extend the lead to 5-3 just 3:20 into the frame. Johnston had the lone assist on the goal and his first point as a Spitfire. Four minutres after getting a two-goal lead the Firebirds would respond on the powerplay to pull back within one. In the dying seconds of the period, Christopoulos would net his 2nd of the night and restore the two goal lead and take it into the dressing room.
In the third period, the Firebirds would score shorthanded to make it a 6-5 game. Onuska and the Spitfires shut it down and held on for the big win and a crucial 2 points early in the season.
The Spitfires are back in action tomorrow Sunday October 23rd when the Niagara IceDogs come to town. Puck drop is scheduled for 4:05pm.
