Spitfires Lose in Flint, 4-1

The Spitfires were undermanned and couldn't solve the Flint netminder onroute to a 4-1 loss in Flint.

In the first period, both teams traded key chances. The Spitfires would have an opportunity to go ahead on the powerplay but Day made a fantastic save on Greentree to keep it scoreless. The Firebirds would also have a powerplay chance but couldn't find the back of the net on it. Just over three quarters through the period, the Firebirds would score, a blocked shot from Piercey landed on the stick of Hayes and he scored his 29th of the season. In the final minute of the period, Onuska came up clutch making multiple saves to keep it a one goal game. The Firebirds outshot the Spitfires 17-7 through the frame.

In the second period, the Firebirds would score just 29 seconds in to make it a 2-0 game. That was the lone goal in the period. The Spitfires had a 5 on 3 chance but couldn't finish. The Firebirds led in shots 27-21 after 2 periods of play.

In the third period, the Firebirds would extend their lead to 3-0 just under four minutes in. With just under four minutes left in the period the Spitfires would score courtesy of DIonicio's 11th of the season to bring the Spitfires within 2. The Firebirds would respond with an empty goal to take this one by a score of 4-1.

The Spitfires are back in action on Saturday vs the Sarnia Sting for the third game in three nights. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
