Brantford Bulldogs News Release

HAMILTON, ONTARIO. The Hamilton Bulldogs were back home on Friday night after a very successful midweek road tip, with wins in Erie & Barrie & looked to carry the momentum into the weekend facing off with the Owen Sound Attack for their first trip to Hamilton since February 26th, 2020.

The Attack went on the "attack" right away in the opening frame. Precisely 78 seconds into the game Madden Steen sent a wrister on net that beat the screened Tristan Malboeuf, giving the visitors an early 1-0 lead on Steen 's 3rd of the season. The Bulldogs looked to bounce right back as Ben Bujold took a feed from the returning Lawson Sherk in the middle of the ice but was gloved down by Nick Chenard. The period remained relatively quiet until about the halfway point as Cole Brown burst in trying to split the defensemen, the puck dribbled back to the stick of Bujold who sent it just inches over the crossbar. Noah Van Vliet provided some defensive zone heroics nearing the end of the frame, saving a goal by blocking a back door feed from Nolan Seed to Ethan Burroughs, deflecting it off his shin and away from the open goal. The first penalty of the evening went to Braedyn Rogers for delay of game, flipping the puck over the glass. Sahil Panwar and Florian Xhekaj got the best chances during the man advantage, however Chenard came up big with brilliant split on the Xhekaj chance, refusing to let the puck cross the line allowing the visitors to head to their dressing room holding a 1-0 lead through 20 minutes.

Just two minutes into the middle frame, Lawson Sherk was sent to the penalty box for holding, sending the Attack to their first powerplay of the night. Colby Barlow got set up at the right hashmarks and, receiving a pass from Sam Sedley, he ripped the puck by Malboeuf doubling the lead for the visitors to 2-0 at 2:56 on his 42nd of the season. Owen Sound didn't stop there, continuing to apply pressure on the Bulldogs defense who left Deni Goure wide open net front for a tap in of an Ethan Burroughs set up, making it 3-0 for Owen Sound at 3:58 on his 26th of the year. Things went from bad to worse for the Bulldogs, with Colby Barlow getting his second of the night making a nifty move around the defense and tucking the puck through the five-hole of Malboeuf on a no look shot for his 2nd of the game and 43rd of the year at 13:31, followed 50 seconds later, as Noah Van Vliet kneeled down to block a pass from Thomas Chafe which deflected off his stick, firing past Malboeuf and putting the Attack up 5-0. Through 40 minutes of play the Bulldogs trailed 5-0 and looked for a spark to bring them back in the final frame.

Though the comeback in third period came too late to earn points, the Bulldogs showed their heart in the last 20 minutes to fight back on the scoreboard. On the power-play at 13:58, the Dogs broke through with Nick Lardis moving the puck from the left circle to the middle of the line for Lucas Moore who set Sahil Panwar on a tee in the right circle for a one-timer that beat Chenard for Panwar's 24th of the season making it 5-1. The Bulldogs clawed another back late as at 18:29, a falling Nick Lardis fired a slot from the shot wide but a charging Cole Brown collected the puck behind the net, centering it to Sahil Panwar who flipped it over Chenard's pad for his 2nd of the night & 25th of the year, closing the gap to 5-2 which is where it would end at the final horn, halting the Bulldogs back-to-back wins.

The Bulldogs are back in action this Sunday afternoon as the Erie Otters cross the border and come to town. The puck drops at 2pm at the FirstOntario Centre.
