Spitfires Fight off Wolves, Win 3-2

The Spitfires traveled to Sudbury for a matchup with the Wolves in Saturday night action. This was the 2nd, and final time the teams would meet this season. The Spitfires took the first game by a score of 4-3 on October 27th at the WFCU Centre.

In the first period, the Spitfires struck first just over four minutes into the game on the powerplay. Afanasyev scored his 17th on the season. Rafkin and Purboo got the assists. However, the Wolves responded 10 minutes later, tying the game at 1. Shots were 10-9 in favour of the Wolves after one period.

Heading into the 2nd frame, the Spitfires were looking to restore their one-goal lead. It was Mcdonald who tipped a Stevenson shot just over seven minutes into the period making it 2-1 Spits. Just over three minutes after that, it was captain Boka who scored his 12th of the season to make it 3-1. Shots were 19-18 in favour of the Wolves after 40 minutes.

In the third period, just two minutes in, Sudbury scored and made it a 3-2 game. But the Spitfires fought off the Wolves attack and took the game by a final score of 3-2. The game was littered with penalties with seven minors and a misconduct on the Spitfires and five minors for the Wolves.

The Spitfires' next game is Sunday, January 5th, 2020, when they travel to North Bay for a matchup with the Battalion. Puck drop at 2:00 pm.
