Spitfires Fall to the Otters 3-2 in OT

The Spitfires got robbed in overtime on a non-call and Erie was awarded a penalty shot on the same exact play to win the game in OT.

In the first period, the Spitfires got on the board just under 8 minutes into the game. Abraham passed to Renwick whos point shot was stopped and Maillet on the rebound got two chances to bury it and he scored his 10th on the season. Just 40 seconds later the Otters tied it at one. The shots were 17-5 in favour of the Otters.

In the second period, the Spitfires had a few powerplay chances but nothing doing. Just over halfway through the period, the Spits restored the lead from D'Amico scoring his 32nd on the year. Just 5 minutes later, the Otters scored to tie the game at 2. The Otters led in shots 26-14 after 40 minutes.

In the third period, no team could get the go ahead goal. With just over two minutes to play in the period, Onuska got hurt on the hand and had to leave the game. Medina came in to relief. There were no goals in the third and we were off to OT.

In overtime, the Spitfires had a powerplay and came close to winning but couldn't score. As the penalty expired, Johnston went in over the line and split the defense and was hooked with no call. The Otters then went down the ice and drew a penalty shot on the same play, they scored on the shot to win 3-2.

The Spitfires are back in action tomorrow in Guelph for a 7pm puck drop.
