Tri-City Storm News Release
KEARNEY – The Tri-City Storm of the United States Hockey League learned late Monday that forward Rastislav Spirko has been named the league’s Offensive Player of the Week.
Spirko, a 5-foot-9, 175-pound forward, earned the honor with two goals and three assists in helping the Storm split a pair of road games last week. Spirko is the third Storm player in four weeks to win either the offensive or defensive award joining teammates Tom Pohl and Steve Wagner.
Spirko had a pair of assists in Friday nightÂ’s 3-1 win over Des Moines. Saturday Spirko had two goals, one coming on the power play, and added an assist against Waterloo. Thanks to his five-point effort, Spirko tied Cedar RapidsÂ’ Jon Grabarek as the USHLÂ’s leading point scorer. He currently has a league-leading 20 goals and 13 assists in 26 games.
Spirko, a native of Vrutky, Slovakia, will miss the next five Storm games during December and January. In November, Spirko was chosen to play for Slovakia in the Under-20 World Junior Tournament that runs from Dec. 25 through Jan 5. Spirko will rejoin the team on Jan. 8.
