Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

The Waterloo Black Hawks hockey team wrapped up their season long five game home stand on a bright note in a 7-5 victory over the Tri-City Storm Friday night at Young Arena. The win capped off a 2-2-1 home stand for the Hawks who will now play seven of their next ten games on the road. Here's a look back at that win.

Waterloo fell behind 2-0 Saturday night as the Storm scored the games first two goals, two minutes apart early in the opening period. The Black Hawks got on the board late in the opening period as Tim Madsen (Elk River, MN) scored a break away goal to cut the Storm lead to 2-1 after one. Waterloo took their first lead of the game on goals by Mike Radja (Yorkville, IL) and Jesse Vesel (Hibbing, MN), early in the second to take a 3-2 lead. The Storm then scored the games next two goals to regain the lead 4-3. The teams then alternated the games next three goals as Radja and Joel Hanson (Elk River, MN) scored the Waterloo goals to tie the game at five after two.

The Black Hawks took the lead for good in the third period as David Meckler (Highland Park, IL) fired a shot past Storm goaltender Peter Mannino to put Waterloo up 6-5. Tim Madsen closed out the scoring with his second goal of the game mid-way through the third period to produce the 7-5 final. Kevin Regan (South Boston, MA) stopped 19-24 in net for the win.

Waterloo will now play three games in four days leading into the Holiday Break. Waterloo will next play at Sioux City this Wednesday and will then be home this Friday when they host Sioux City on Friday.
