Saginaw Spirit News Release
SAGINAW, MICH. - The Spirit return home to the Dow Event Center Wednesday morning to welcome in the Flint Firebirds (5-5-0-1, 4th Western Division) for the annual Education Day Game. This marks the third of eight meetings between the Spirit and the Firebirds in the inaugural Coors Light I-75 Divide Cup Series.
The Spirit are coming off a long road weekend, after they competed in Mississauga on Friday, Erie on Saturday, and Kitchener on Sunday afternoon. Saginaw came out on top in two of their three games defeating the Mississauga Steelheads 4-3 in a shootout and the Erie Otters 6-3, before falling just short to the Kitchener Rangers.
The Flint Firebirds dropped last week's road games at the hands of the Barrie Colts on Thursday and the Owen Sound Attack on Saturday. The Colts scored the first four goals of Thursday night's contest, edging out the Firebirds 8-5. At the JD MacArthur Arena, the Attack outscored the Firebirds 2-1, after a third period goal by Owen Sound's Jaden Lindo.
Saginaw and Flint rekindled the I-75 Divide rivalry this past fall as the Spirit welcomed the Firebirds to the Dow Event Center for the first time in Great Lakes Bay Region history. The Spirit and Firebirds have matched up twice this season in a home and home set for the teams. Flint was victorious in both meetings, taking a 3-0 win over the Spirit in Saginaw and a 3-2 shootout victory in Flint.
