New Haven County Cutters News Release


Lynn, MA– The New Haven County Cutters fell 2-1 to the North Shore Spirit on Thursday night in a tight ball game at Fraser Field.

Cutters left hander Jordy Alexander (1-1) was the tough luck loser, pitching eight innings allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits while striking out eight. Alexander finished the game retiring the last thirteen batters he faced.

Spirit lefty Bryan Morse improved to 2-0 on the season, tossing eight innings of five hit ball, giving up one unearned run and fanning six. Ryan Bicondoa pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his second save of the season for the Spirit.

The Cutters scored their lone run of the game in the top of the first inning. Leadoff hitter Tyrone Pendergrass reached on third basemen Nilson Teilon's throwing error to start the inning and later advanced to third on a throwing error by catcher Frank Charles. Billy Rich then knocked home Pendergrass with a RBI single for the game's first run.

The Spirit scored their only two runs of the game in the bottom of the second. After catcher Frank Charles led off the inning with a double, he was driven home by Rob Fischer's RBI double to tie the game at one. Fisher then scored from third on a throwing error by New Haven catcher Adam Shorsher to give the Spirit a 2-1 lead.

Billy Rich went 2-for-4 in the game with a RBI single. Third basemen Ryan Kane also added a pair of singles for the Cutters who are now 8-6 on the season.

The Cutters continue their road trip tomorrow night as they visit the defending Northeast League Champion Brockton Rox. First pitch is set for 7:11pm

The New Haven County Cutters play their home games in Elm City's historic Yale Field. The club plays a 92-game schedule in the eight-team independent Northeast League. The Cutters return home on Monday, June 14, when they host the New Jersey Jackals. All games, road and home, can be heard on the internet through cuttersbaseball.com and the next WMRD broadcast will be this Sunday, June 13, as the Cutters visit the Brockton Rox with first pitch scheduled at 2:05 PM.
