Spirit Sneak By Cutters

Lynn, MA– The North Shore Spirit downed the New Haven County Cutters 2-1 on Thursday night at the New Fraser Field.

Bryan Morse allowed zero earned runs over eight strong innings to improve his record to 2-0. Morse gave up five hits, struckout six and walked no one. Ryan Bicondoa pitched the ninth, for his second save of the season. New Haven starter Jordy Alexander pitched a complete game six-hitter in defeat.

Trailing 1-0 in the second, Frank Charles led off with a double and scored when Rob Fischer laced a two-bagger down the line in right. Fischer advanced to third on a single by Joe Hastings and scored when New Haven catcher Adam Shorsher tried to catch Hastings stealing, but instead threw the ball into centerfield.

The Cutters scored their only run in the first. Tyrone Pendergrass reached on an error and scored when rightfielder Billy Rich singled to left.

The Bangor Lumberjacks come to town on Friday for a three-game homestand. Ben Knapp (1-0) is on the mound for the Spirit and will face Bangor's Jerry Long (1-1). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm and gates open at 5:30.

Friday, June 11 is "Welcome Back Potter" Night at Fraser Field as we celebrate the return of Hogwart's most famous wizard to the big screen. The Spirit will host a magical and enchanting night at the ballpark.

Friday night is also Salem Community Night at Fraser Field. Special guests will include the Salem Mayor, School Superintendent, and members of the Salem Chamber of Commerce. It's another one of Slugger's Reading Program nights at the New Fraser Field, presented by KeySpan. Students from the Nathaniel Bowditch and Carlton Schools in Salem who have completed Slugger's Reading Program will participate in a pre-game parade to congratulate them on their accomplishments.
