
Spirit Tie Season Series with Kitchener following 6-2 Loss

(Kitchener, ON) The Saginaw Spirit lost to the Kitchener Rangers 6-2 Friday night. Spirit defenseman T.J. Brodie (NHL CALGARY FLAMES) and winger Joe Pleckaitis each tallied a goal in the effort. The Spirit have 65 points for the season and a record of 30-19-1-4.
The first period began with a Kitchener powerplay goal at 2:32, scored by winger T.J. Battani and assisted by winger Shane Prince. Spirit winger Joe Pleckaitis responded, adding a goal for Saginaw at 11:47 in the period. Wingers Jordan Skellett and Jordan Szwarz were credited with the assists. The Rangers capped off the period with a powerplay goal tallied by winger Tyler Randell at 18:23. Wingers Robert Bortuzzo and Chris MacKinnon assisted on the play, ending the period with the Rangers ahead, 2-1.
Battani came out with a goal early in the second, scoring for the Rangers 24 seconds into the period. The goal was assisted by winger Shane Prince and defenseman Alex Dzielski. The rest of the period remained scoreless until Spirit defenseman T.J. Brodie (NHL CALGARY FLAMES) found the net at 11:56. The powerplay goal was assisted by center Jack Combs and defenseman Nick Crawford (NHL BUFFALO SABRES). The period ended with the Rangers ahead, 3-2.
Center Jeff Skinner tallied a goal for the Rangers at 3:22 in the third period, with assists coming from defenseman Simon Grovaldt and winger Jason Akeson. Skinner added another goal for Kitchener minutes later, knocking one in at the 6:09 mark. The goal was assisted by Akeson and MacKinnon. The third period ending with an empty net goal scored by Akeson and assisted by Randall. The game ended with the Rangers ahead, 6-2.
Saginaw goalie Anthony Peters finished the game with 18 saves while goalie Edward Pasquale added 5 saves for the game. Kitchener netminder Parker Van Buskirk finished the night with 23 saves. Saginaw finished with 24 shots on goal while the Rangers ended with 31 shots.
