Spirit Sweep Weekend with 5-2 Win over Colts

(Barrie, ON) The Saginaw Spirit were on the road Saturday night, sweeping the weekend with a victory over the Barrie Colts, 5-2. Defenseman T.J. Brodie added one goal and four assists for the Spirit with center Chris Chappell contributing one goal and one assist. Spirit earn two points for the win for a total of 31 points, advancing their record to 15-7-0-1.

The Spirit took an early lead in the game, as winger Jordan Skellet found the net on power play at 19:29 in the first period. Winger Chris Chappell and defenseman T.J. Brodie (NHL CALGARY FLAMES) assisted on the play. Following suit was center Jack Combs at the start of the second, as he knocked in a goal at 4:46. The power play goal was assisted by defensemen T.J Brodie (NHL CALGARY FLAMES) and Nick Crawford (NHL BUFFALO SABRES) to extend Saginaw's lead, 2-0.

Continuing scoring for the Spirit was defenseman Joe Underwood, who took advantage of the short-handed Colts at 6:18. The power play goal was assisted by Crawford (NHL BUFFALO SABRES) and Brodie (NHL CALGARY FLAMES) to pull the Spirit further ahead, 3-0. Colts center Alex Hutchings put a point on the board for Barrie after being assisted by defenseman Ryan O'Connor and winger Kyle Clifford to score a power play goal at 11.24 in the period. The Spirit continued scoring with Chappell knocking in a power play goal at 15:41. Assists on the play were credited to Crawford (NHL BUFFALO SABRES) and Brodie (NHL CALGARY FLAMES). Capping off the second period was Colts winger Mitch Lebar, who found the net at 18:40. The power play goal was assisted by defensemen Brian Lashoff and Ryan O'Connor. The Spirit finished the second period ahead of the Colts, 4-2.

Adding another point for the Spirit late in the third period was an unassisted Brodie (NHL CALGARY FLAMES) who knocked in a shorthanded goal 19:54.

Saginaw goalie Edward Pasquale finished with 36 saves, while Barrie goalie Michael Hutchinson earned 28 saves.
