Spirit Stymie Attack for 3-2 OT Win

(Owen Sound, ON) The Saginaw Spirit beat the Owen Sound Attack 3-2 in overtime Wednesday night. Jack Combs posted two goals in the effort, including a power play marker :28 seconds in the overtime period to seal the Saginaw win. Goalie Edward Pasquale posted 37 saves in backstopping the Spirit. The Spirit earn two points with the win for a total of 27 points, good for second place in the OHL West Division with a record of 13-7-0-1. The Spirit are in fourth place in the OHL Western Conference and closing in on the third place Guelph Storm (29 points)

The Spirit took an early 2 goal lead in the first period. Center Jack Combs opened scoring with an unassisted goal at the 9:25 mark, his ninth of the season. The Spirit extended their lead at 17:20 in the first when defenseman Adam Comrie (NHL FLORIDA PANTHERS) tallied a break-a-way goal courtesy a pass from defenseman T.J. Brodie (NHL CALGARY FLAMES).

The Spirit held onto their 2 goal advantage until late in the third period when the Attack scored a power play goal at the 10:44 mark. Winger Mike Lomas tallied the goal, with winger Andrew Wilkins and defenseman David Kolomatis contributing assists. The Attack continued to battle the Spirit, pushing the contest past regulation thanks to a late period goal from winger Garrett Wilson. Kolomatis and Wilkins notched the assists on the goal, the second point of the night for both.

Saginaw's Combs ended the game quickly, scoring his second goal of the evening :28 seconds into overtime. Brodie and winger Chris Chappell tallied the assists, helping Saginaw take the 3-2 overtime win.

Saginaw netminder Edward Pasquale posted 37 saves on 39 shots, while Attack goalie Tyler Beskorowany (NHL DALLAS STARS) earned 30 saves on 33 shots.
