Pasquale Tops OHL Goalies

(Saginaw, MI) The National Hockey League released its preliminary rankings of the Ontario Hockey League's top prospects for the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Spirit goalie Edward Pasquale was ranked the top OHL goaltender.

Pasquale, a native of Toronto, is in his third season with the Ontario Hockey League. He came to the Spirit via trade with the Belleville Bulls last season, notching 8 wins and 5 losses in 13 games with the Spirit. Pasquale has carried the load in net this season for Saginaw, posting 12 wins, 7 loses and 1 shootout lose in 20 games. He has a 2.72 goals against average and 0.914 save percentage on the season.

The Oshawa Generals' John Tavares was ranked the top skater out of the OHL eligible for the 2009 draft, followed by Brampton Battalions' Matt Duchene and London Knights' Nazem Kadri.

The Spirit roster is loaded with several 91-born players eligible for the upcoming NHL draft, including winger Richard Jarusek, center John Kavanagh, goalie Joe Lepera, center Daniel Pachis, defenseman Cody Sol, winger Jordan Szwarz, defenseman Nick Trecapelli, and defenseman Brad Walch.

The NHL is scheduled to release its mid-term rankings in January and final rankings in early April.
