Spirit Sign Ramon Lopez

The Saginaw Spirit today announce the signing of first year defenseman Ramon Lopez to an Ontario Hockey League contact. Lopez was selected by the Spirit in the 2011 OHL Priority Selection in the 5th Round, 96th overall. This past season, the Ft. Lauderdale Florida native skated with the Toronto Titans Minor Midget program where he was a teammate of Jimmy Lodge who was the Spirit's 3rd round pick this year. Lopez appeared in 30 games recording 14 goals and 16 assists. A forward last season in midget, he has been moved back to the blueline by the Spirit and is now listed as a defenseman on the Saginaw roster.

The Spirit will open their exhibition schedule on Friday, September 9 as they travel to the RBC Center in Sarnia to face off against the Sting. The same two teams will make a return visit to the Dow Event Center on Saturday, September 10 at 7:11 with all tickets priced at 7 dollars. The Spirit 2011/12 regular season opener is slated for Friday, September 23 as they travel to London to meet the Knights. Home opening weekend is scheduled for Friday, September 30 against the Kitchener Rangers and Saturday, October 1 when they play host to the Ottawa 67's in a game that will feature the raising of the banner acknowledging the Spirit's 2010/11 West Division Regular Season Title.
