Spirit Set Team Record, Scoring 11 Goals in Sarnia

Sarnia, ON. - The Saginaw Spirit took on the Sarnia Sting Friday evening at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena for the second time this season. In a game that featured nine different goal scorers for Saginaw, the Spirit set a single-game team record in an 11-8 victory of the Sarnia Sting.

Sarnia took the lead 6:03 into the first period. Overager Ryan McGregor won the face-off that was set up in Saginaw's zone. McGregor immediately passed the puck to Sean Josling who received it at the top of the right-wing circle. With the puck on the tip of Josling's stick, he shot it right past Spirit goaltender Tristian Lennox for the first goal of the game.

At 15:23 of the first period, D.J. King grabbed the puck in the Sting's zone and passed it down the ice to D.J. Busdeker at the Spirit's blue line. Busdeker passed the puck to 2020 Top NHL draft pick Cole Perfetti. Skating to the middle of the right-wing circle, Perfetti took a slapshot that went past the Sting's goaltender Ethan Langevin to tie the game.

While on the penalty kill from a Theo Hill hooking penalty, the Sting's center and Carolina Hurricanes draft pick Jamieson Rees skated into the Spirit's zone and maneuvered around Danny Katic. Rees skated up to the net and wrapped the puck around Lennox's pads, breaking the tie.

Thirty-four seconds after the previous goal, Camaryn Baber took a shot that rebounded off of a Sarnia's players skate. Dalton Duhart collected the rebound and redirected it into the net to tie the game with less than a minute remaining in the first period.

The Spirit outshot the Sting in the first period 15-8 but was unable to break the tie.

Moments into the second period, Mason Millman was called for a 5:00 major penalty, that resulted in a 3:00 power play for the Sarnia Sting. .

With less than a minute remaining in their power play, Jacob Perreault weaved his way into the Spirit's zone with the puck. He skated to the left-wing circle and took a shot. The puck bounced off of Reilly Webb's skate and into the net.

A little over 30 seconds later, Perreault had the puck again. He passed the puck from the slot to Brayden Guy at the bottom of the left-wing circle. Guy shot the puck that went around Lennox for their second powerplay goal.

If was after the goal by Guy that the Spirit pulled Tristan Lennox and replaced him with Marshall Frappier.

With 10:28 remaining in the second period, the Spirit closed the gap to one goal. New York Islanders draft pick Cole Coskey passed the puck to King at the point. As King took the shot, Katic skated to the front of the net and was able to tip the puck in.

Less than a minute later, Coskey at the right-wing circle passed the puck to Katic who was behind the net. Minnesota Wild draft pick and captain Damien Giroux, who was waiting in front of the net, received the puck from Katic. Giroux was then able to tip the puck in to tie the game at four goals apiece.

With 9:05 remaining in the second period, Baber skated around the boards and up to the front of the net. He took a shot that rebounded off of Langevin's pads. Danil Antropov, at the bottom of the left-wing circle, collected the rebound for a one-timer that went top-shelf.

At the point, Saginaw, Michigan native Mitchell Smith passed the puck to rookie Sebastian Bulovs. A slap shot from the top of the left-wing circle made it the fourth straight goal for the Spirit in the second period. This goal also marked Bulovs first career OHL goal.

The Spirit once again outshot the Sting 19-6 and pulled ahead by two goals going into the second intermission.

Only 33 seconds into the third period, the Spirit found the back of the net again. Perfetti stole the puck from McGregor at the right-wing circle and skated to the slot. The slap shot went top-shelf stick side and increased the Spirits lead to 7-4.

A minute later, Katic Skated into the Sting's zone and passed the puck to Coskey who was in between the hashes. Coskey took a shot on net that went past the Sting goaltender's blocker.

5:45 into the third period, King passed the puck to Smith at the point. The slap shot from Smith made its way through Sarnia players and into the back of the net. The assist from King became a career-high in points for him.

Giroux collected the puck from the top of the left-wing circle and skated around the circle being trailed by a Sarnia player. Giroux made his way to the front of the net and made the shot for his second goal of the night.

Less than a minute later, Ryan Roth brought the puck to the middle of the right-wing circle and shot the puck past Frappier top-shelf.

Only 17 seconds after the previous goal, Roth took another shot on goal that did not make it into the net. Theo Hill found the loose puck at the crease and tipped the puck in past Frappier's pads to close the gap to, 10-6.

Duhart skated to the bottom of the left-wing circle and passed the puck behind him to Busdeker at the top of the circle. A quick shot from Busdeker beat Langevin and added another goal to the board for the Spirit.

With five minutes remaining in regulation, Marek Berka brought the puck around the net and centered it to Perreault who then shot the puck in and got his second goal of the night.

With only 58 seconds remaining in regulation, Justin Nolet came around the left-wing circle to the slot and scored on Frappier five-hole.

The Spirit came out on top with the victory, 11-8.

The Spirit return home Saturday, December 7 for the fourth annual Super Hero Night at The Dow Event Center presented by CAN Council and Yeo when they host the West Division rival Windsor Spitfires.  Saginaw will be sporting special superhero jerseys that will be auctioned off for charity following the game.  Puck drop for the third of eight meetings this season begins at 7:05 p.m.
