Owen Sound, Ont. - The Saginaw Spirit downed the Owen Sound Attack, 2-1 at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre in Game 3 of their opening round series to take a 3-0 lead Monday night. Nic Sima netted a goal with 14 seconds remaining in the first, Colby Barlow responded late into the second, and Joey Willis scored the game-winner with 10 seconds remaining in the second. Carter George started for the Attack saving 40 of 42, while Andrew Oke stopped 24 of 25 for the Spirit.
The Spirit opened the scoring late in period one after Jorian Donovan collected a pass from Michael Misa, sending one through the neutral zone to find Nic Sima. The Mississauga native received the puck with speed, slashing toward the net before sliding the puck through the legs of goaltender Carter George and into the net for his first of the OHL playoffs and a 1-0 Spirit lead.
AFTER 1: SAG 1 - 0 OS (Total Shots: 12 - 7)
Following a minor penalty to James Guo for holding, Cedrick Guindon moved the puck to Sam Sedley who back skated across the blue line. Sedley looked across the zone to the right circle and fed a pass to the waiting Colby Barlow. The Winnipeg prospect lined one-timed a shot on goal that slipped past the glove of Andrew Oke to even the game at 1-1.
With 10 seconds remaining in the second, Josh Bloom received a pass from the point and quickly one-timed a pass to the slot that Alex Christopoulos attempted to shoot on net. Christopoulos's first chance was knocked down on top of the crease, where Joey Willis was able to jam home the loose puck for his second goal of the playoffs.
AFTER 2: SAG 2 - 1 OS (2nd period shots: 21 - 8 / Total Shots: 33 - 15)
With 1:05 remaining the Attack pulled goaltender Carter George in favor of the extra attacker, but were unable to tie the game before the final buzzer. The Spirit blocked shots and Andrew Oke made all ten saves in the third period.
