Spirit Fall to Rangers in Home Opener

The Saginaw Spirit were defeated by the opposing Kitchener Rangers during their home opener on Friday by the score of 4-1. The crowd was pumped up, showing the Spirit an extremely warm welcoming at The Dow Event Center. Defenseman Peter Hermenegildo scored the sole goal for the Spirit.

The teams battled during the first period. After 14 minutes of play, Kitchener Rangers took the lead. Center Radek Faksa scored the first goal with assists from center Michael Cantenacci and defenseman Max Iafrate. We left the first period with a score of 1-0 Rangers.

The second period opened with a quick goal by Spirit's Hermenegildo just a minute and a half into the period. Terry Trafford (wing) and Vince Trocheck (center) assisted the goal. The Rangers fired back by scoring two back to back goals at the three and a half minute mark. Defenseman Jonathan Jasper had the first goal of this period, followed shortly after by center Zach Lorentz. Matia Marcantuoni of the Rangers rounded out the second period by scoring yet another goal with 4 minutes left to play.

The teams enter into the third period with the Rangers leading the game 4-1. The Spirit was given a two minute power play with three minutes of play left in the third. However, they could not pull out a goal during this time.

Goaltender Tadeas Galansky made 32 saves in net throughout the course of the game. Opposing goalie John Gibson made 24.
