Spirit Fall to Greyhounds in Weekend Opener

On Friday night, the Saginaw Spirit fell to the Soo Greyhounds by the score of 4-3 in overtime. Scoring for the Spirit were Eric Locke, Josh Shalla, and Garret Ross.

The scoring got started in the second period when the Spirit crossed into the Greyhounds zone and Vince Trocheck found Eric Locke for the first goal of the hockey game. Then eight minutes later, Josh Shalla continued his hot streak of late, scoring to put the Spirit up 2-0. Shalla's goal was assisted by Brandon Saad and Vince Trocheck. The Greyhounds would surge late in the second period scoring two goals in the final minute of the period, from Brandon Alderson and Nick Cousins, to tie the game at 2-2 heading into the second intermission.

The Greyhounds would continue their momentum into the third period, scoring just two minutes in to make the score 3-2. Scoring for the Greyhounds was Mike Schwindt. Saginaw's Garret Ross would tie the game on the power play at the 11:17 mark of the period. Assists on that goal went to Eric Locke and Josh Shalla. The score would remain tied at 3-3 as regulation time ended.

In the final minute of the overtime period, Carson Dubchak would net his 13th goal of the season to win the game for the Greyhounds.
