North Shore Spirit News Release

With shaky pitching and no clutch hitting, North Shore fell behind early and never managed to come back as they fell to the Brockton Rox 14-5 Tuesday night at Fraser Field.

With the loss, North Shore (10-10) dropped to .500 on the season, while Brockton improved to 14-11. Wayne Hedden (0-2) took the loss, as Manny Tejada earned his third victory.

Control issues spoiled Wayne Hedden's first start of the season. He had two walks and two hit batsman, as Brockton put together a three-run first inning. Jake Daubert and Brian Jones each had an RBI single, and Kyle Zacuto laid down a sacrifice bunt for the third Rox run.

The Rox added to their lead in the third inning on a two-run home run from Guye Senjem.

Hedden was pulled in the top of the fourth after surrendering two more walks and an RBI single to Saul Bustos. Mark Comolli entered the game with the bases loaded and no one out. He got some help when Brian Macchi ranged into foul territory for a fly ball and nailed the Brockton runner at the plate. Comolli couldn't get the third out, however, giving up two walks and three singles, as Brockton's lead ballooned to nine.

The Rox grabbed two more runs in the fifth behind a sacrifice fly from Craig Lewis and an RBI single from pinch-hitter Gary Weingart.

Manny Tejada managed to shut out the Spirit for six innings, before Garrett Weir put North Shore on the board with a solo home run.

Stephen Carter connected for the Spirit's second long ball of the night in the eighth inning - a two-run shot over the left-field wall.

This game was over early, however, as the Spirit were unable to dig themselves out of substantial hole. It was an especially tough night for the Spirit pitchers, as the Rox offense dominated the staff.

Hoping to spare some arms for the rest of the series, Spirit designated hitter Travis Oglesby was called in for mop up duty in the eighth. He logged three innings of work, and then notched the third Spirit home run of the night in the bottom of the ninth to close out the scoring.

The Spirit will have a chance to redeem themselves as they face Brockton again June 22 at Fraser Field. Game time is 7:05PM.
