New Haven takes series opener 4-2
June 21, 2005 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Jersey Jackals News Release
The Jackals got on the board early against the New Haven County Cutters with a two-run homerun by John Lindsey, but couldn't make it stand up as they fell in the series opener 4-2 at Yogi Berra Stadium.
The home side scored first for the fifth consecutive game, and the score remained tied at two on the strong pitching performance of Brad Whitworth.
An RBI single by Cutters designated hitter Nick Hiter finally broke the deadlock to put the visitors up 3-2, and they tacked on one more off reliever Julio Perez in the eighth to finish the scoring for the evening.
Jackals newcomer Darren Ciraco had a successful debut, going 2-for-3, and Joe Jiannetti and Steve Checksfield added two hits apiece.
Rolando Valles had an effective outing for the Cutters, pitching into the eighth inning and giving up only two runs.
The Jackals continue their series against the Cutters tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. For tickets and other information, please call the Jackals Ticket Office at 973-746-7434 or visit www.jackals.com.
