North Shore Spirit News Release

The North Shore Spirit lost to the Bangor Lumberjacks 3-2 in game three on Wednesday afternoon at the New Fraser Field in Lynn.

Santiago Henry (4-1) picked up the win for Quebec pitching three innings of relief with three strikeouts. Bangor starting pitcher Jerry Long pitched 4 1/3 innings, giving up two runs. Jeff Sparks got the save, his fourth of the season. Miguel Baez (4-3) took the loss for the Spirit after pitching eight solid innings.

In front of a crowd of 2,064, the Spirit struggled at the plate with only six hits and left 11 men on base. Mike Tejada went 2-5 with two singles and reached on a fielder's choice. Frank Charles knocked in Tejada with a triple for the RBI.

The lumberjacks scored their first run of the game in the third inning. Brad Hargreaves singled and advanced to second on a balk by Baez. Nick Saunders grounded out to first to move Hargreaves to third and Hargreaves was waved home on a Schuyler Doakes sacrifice fly to left field.

Bangor finished with 12 hits for the night behind designated hitter Lorenzo De La Cruz. De La Cruz was 2-4 with an RBI after a solo homerun in the sixth inning. Donnie Ross also added a solo homerun in the fourth to cushion the Bangor lead.

The Spirit looked promising in the 9th inning after a Yuri Sanchez walk and a single by Mike Tejada, but it wasn't enough though as Bangor closer Jeff Sparks struck out Frank Charles to end the inning.

The Spirit play a three-game series against cross-town rivals the Brockton Rox at Campanelli Stadium in Brockton beginning on Friday. Klae Calvert (4-2) will take the mound for the Spirit.

The North Shore Spirit return home on Friday, July 25 for a three-game homestand against the Brockton Rox. July 25 is "Christmas in July" at the New Fraser Field so be sure to wear your brightest red and green.
