Saginaw Spirit News Release
(Sarnia) â The Saginaw Spirit came from behind to tie division rival Sarnia 1-1 in Sarnia Friday night. The Sting struck first when John Hecimovic scored his 100th goal in a Sting uniform at 8:33 of the first period on a pass from Jamie Fraser.
Saginaw hung with the Sting for much of the first and second period, killing off a number of Sting power play opportunities, and equalized at 16:26 of the second. Forward Gary Klapkowski picked a bouncing puck off the boards and fed center Chris Ferguson, who beat LA Kings draft pick Ryan Munce for the game tying goal.
That's where the score remained. Spirit goaltender Mike Brown stopped 34 shots in the contest. The tie takes Saginaw's record to 2-3-1-0 on the season. Saginaw returns home to play the Brampton Battalion Saturday night in Saginaw, at the Dow Event Center. It's Magnet Schedule night for Spirit fans, courtesy MMR and AAA of Michigan.
