Sarnia, ON) The Saginaw Spirit beat the Sarnia Sting 4-3 Saturday night in Sarnia. Spirit forward Tomas Zaborsky notched two goals in the win, which takes the Spirit record to 26-14-0-2 and 54 points. Third place Saginaw moves within 3 points of second place Sarnia in the OHL West Division; the Plymouth Whalers are in first place with 59 points.
Stated Spirit General Manager and Head Coach Bob Mancini: "It was an outstanding team effort in a very difficult place to play and against a very good team."
Spirit winger Tomas Zaborsky (NYR 06)gave Saginaw an early 1-0 lead one minute into the game when he shot in an unassisted goal. A Sarnia 5-on-3 power play gave Sting center Harrison Reed the opportunity to tie the game 1-1 with a goal at 13:15 in the first. Spirit center Ryan McDonough regained the lead with a power play goal at the 18:52 mark, assisted by center Tom Pyatt (NYR 05) and defenseman Patrick McNeill (WSH 05). The first period ended 2-1 Saginaw.
The scoring continued through the second period and into the third. Standout Sarnia center Steven Stamkos tied up the score 2-2, with a power play goal at 16:05 in the second period. Pyatt stole the puck from a Sarnia skater ten seconds into the third period to score his 22nd goal of the season, taking the game to 3-2. Spirit winger Jan Mursak (DET 06) assisted. Sting winger Trevor Kell scored a power play goal at 2:26 in the third period to tie up the game for the third time in the night. Zaborsky scored his second goal of the evening at the 8:43 mark in the third to give the Spirit a 4-3 win. Center Cody Bass (OTT 05) assisted on the goal.
Spirit goaltender Marc-André Perron stopped 23 shots in the win.

The Spirit head to Plymouth Monday afternoon for a game against the Whalers. Next weekend the Spirit will see action on the road against the Sudbury Wolves, the Barrie Colts and the Owen Sound Attack. The Spirit resume action at home against the Oshawa Generals and phenom John Tavares on January 26th at 7:11 PM.
