North Shore Spirit News Release
Lynn, MA - In front of a crowd of 2,346, the North Shore Spirit defeated the Brockton Rox 3-2 in 11 innings Tuesday night at the New Fraser Field.
Brian Macchi scored the winning run on a Jake Daubert throwing error with two outs in the bottom of the 11th. Fontella Jones, making his debut with North Shore, picked up the win after working a scoreless inning of relief. Dave Stevens took the loss for Brockton.
Spirit starter Bryan Morse was brilliant for eight innings. Morse allowed one run on eights hits while striking out five. The only blemish on his record came as result of a first inning homerun off the bat of Mike Torres.
North Shore's offense was held in check by Rox starter Derek Anderson. Anderson pitched into the eighth, allowing two runs on only six hits.
With Brockton leading 1-0 in the eighth, the Spirit strung together three hits including an RBI single by Mike Granger to pull even. Joe Hastings then drew a bases loaded walk, giving the Spirit their first lead of the night.
Brian Jones hit a solo shot off Ryan Bicondoa in the ninth, setting the stage for North Shore's extra inning heroics.
Tonight was a memorable occasion for the Spirit as the 100,000 fan of the 2004 season passed through the Fraser Field gates. Kirk Swanson of South Hamilton was the lucky fan to receive complimentary tickets to Sunday's game where he will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
RHP Aaron Dean (6-4, 6.10) takes the mound for the Spirit on Wednesday night and will face Brockton's Shad Williams. Wednesday's game begins at 7:05 pm, gates open at 5:30 pm.
Wednesday is Jackie Girard Night at Fraser Field to benefit the Brain Tumor Society. In memory of Jackie Girard, who was an active volunteer at the Brain Tumor Society and worked for the North Shore Spirit, this evening allows Jackie's family and friends to enjoy a baseball game and raise funds for BTS.
North Shore Spirit playoff tickets are currently on sale. The Spirit will play at home on Wednesday, September 8 and Thursday, September 9. Both games will begin at 6:05 pm. Tickets can be purchased at the Spirit Box Office located at 365 Western Ave in Lynn or by calling 781-592-0007.
