North Shore Spirit News Release
A five RBI night from Alex Trezza was more than enough support for Bryan Morse as he extended his scoreless innings streak to 21.3 innings and earned his sixth win of the year in an 11-3 win over Elmira Tuesday night.
Trezza had two home runs in the game and Storey added a third as the Spirit bats exploded for sixteen hits, including a 5-5 night from Rob Fischer.
North Shore (26-18) grabbed the early lead in the bottom of the first. Marcos Agramonte led off with a single and advanced to third on a Fischer double. Vic Davilla drove home Agramonte with an RBI groundout to first.
North Shore extended its lead to six with a five-run third inning. Again it was Agramonte who got things going for the Spirit. He led off the inning with an infield single, and reached second as the Pioneer's infielders had trouble coming up with the baseball. Rob Fischer followed with a single to right, and Agramonte came home to score. Fischer came across the plate on a home run from Trezza. A diving grab from Elmira third baseman Das Jesson kept Brian Macchi off the base paths, but Spirit leftfielder Jorge Garcia came through with a two-out double and scored on Storey's home run.
Trezza gave the Spirit a nine-run lead in the fourth with his second home run in as many innings. The three-run shot was Trezza's ninth of the season.
The offensive onslaught continued for the Spirit in the fifth inning, with two more extra-base hits. Jorge Garcia led off the inning with a triple and scored on a double from Storey. The scoring didn't stop there for the Spirit, however, and they picked up another run on an RBI double from Davilla in the sixth.
Elmira came back with three runs in the eighth inning off of Spirit reliever Ryan Warpinski, but it was too little too late. Warpinski struggled in his brief appearance and gave way to Peter Soteropoulous to finish the inning.
Soteropolous stayed in for the ninth and retired the side in order to close out the game for the Spirit.
The Spirit go for the series sweep on Wednesday. North Shore and Elmira close out the first half with a special noon time match-up at the New Fraser Field.
