QUEBEC 9, WORCESTER 5 @ Worcester, Mass. Time: 3:03 ATT: 2,155 W: Julien Tucker (4-2) L: Mike Cox (1-2) S: None HR: QUE - Geofrey Tomlinson (2) WOR - Danilo Reynoso (5) Down 3-0 after four, Quebec scored in all of the final five innings to beat Worcester in the second game of the three-game series and clinch the North Division title. CF Geofrey Tomlinson had a big night for the Capitales, driving in four, including a two-run homer to tie the game in the sixth, while SS Lee Delfino gave Quebec the lead with a two-run double in the seventh. Julien Tucker picked up the win for the Capitales, though he allowed four runs on four hits and walked seven in seven innings. Mike Cox, who came on in relief of Tornadoes starter Alex Pena in the seventh, took the loss, giving up three runs in 1.2 innings. C Danilo Reynoso led the way offensively for Worcester, going 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in three, including a leadoff home run in the bottom of the ninth. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NORTH SHORE 11, ELMIRA 3 @ Lynn, Mass. Time: 2:41 ATT: 1,337 W: Bryan Morse (6-1) L: Mike Howell (3-5) S: None HR: NS - Alex Trezza 2 (9), Eric Storey (3) A five-run third broke open the game early for North Shore, and seven one-hit innings from Bryan Morse kept Elmira from thoughts of a comeback. 2B Marcos Agramonte led off the third with a single and went to second on an error before he was singled home by CF Rob Fischer. C Alex Trezza homered two batters later and finally 3B Eric Storey drove in the final two of the inning with another home run. Fischer was a perfect 5-for-5 on the night, while Trezza added a three-run homer in the fourth to bring his RBI total to five for the game. The only Pioneer hit was a leadoff single by DH Felix Bladimir in the sixth - Elmira's three runs in the eighth were manufactured by two walks, a hit batter, five wild pitches and an RBI groundout by Bladimir. Despite the win, the Spirit remained two games behind Quebec, who won to clinch the North Division. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NEW JERSEY 16, BROCKTON 2 @ Little Falls, N.J. Time: 2:36 ATT: 2,664 W: Josh Brey (5-2) L: Jon Koch (3-3) S: None HR: NJ - Chris Rowan (6) Brockton scored once in the first and once in the ninth, but in between the Jackals pounded out 24 hits to score 16. Rox starter Jon Koch left the game in the fourth after surrendering eight runs, only half of them earned, and reliever Eddie Aucoin stopped the bleeding for an inning and one-third, but New Jersey lit up Steve Sloan in the sixth and seventh for seven earned runs on ten hits. Meanwhile, Josh Brey scattered eight hits in his seven innings, but gave up just one run to collect the win. Every Jackal batter hit safely, but leading the way were CF Zach Smithlin, who went 4-for-5 with five runs scored, a stolen base and an RBI and DH Sandy Madera, a perfect 3-for-3 with four driven in. 1B Craig Lewis had two hits and an RBI for Brockton. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- NEW HAVEN 5, GRAYS 0 @ West Haven, Conn. Time: 3:12 ATT: 672 W: Jarrett Stawarz (4-4) L: Roberto Nieves (2-4) S: None HR: None A forty-minute rain delay in the fifth would rattle some pitchers, but not Jarrett Stawarz, who finished what he started to give the Cutters a stellar five-hit, shutout performance. Bolstered by back-to-back RBI singles by 1B Bill Peavey and DH Jeff Brooks in the top of the first, Stawarz came out firing, setting down the first 13 men he faced before 2B Francisco Lebron singled to left with an out in the fifth. No New Haven player had a multi-hit game, as they scored five runs on just six hits, but C Andy Larned drove in two with a single in the third. Grays starter Roberto Nieves took the loss, allowing five runs in three innings and Tony Pierce and Brad Esarey pitched well in relief, limiting the Cutters to one hit in the final six innings.
