Lowell Spinners News Release

TROY, N.Y. - Going into the bottom of the ninth, the Lowell Spinners, proud affiliate of the 2018 World Champion Boston Red Sox, were tied with the Tri-City ValleyCats, affiliate of the Houston Astros, at one run apiece.

They were looking to get it to extra innings, where they had lost just one game all season. The Spinners (30-19), however, were unable to hang tough - falling to the ValleyCats (20-28) 3-1 on a walk-off two-run home run by Joe Perez.

After pitching ruled the first six innings with both teams being held off the scoreboard by the opposing pitchers, Lowell broke through with two outs in the top of the seventh inning when Alex Erro singled home Stephen Scott from third base, giving the Spinners a 1-0 lead.

Tri-City got one back in the bottom of the eighth inning on an RBI-double by Juan Paulino, scoring Juan Ramirez to tie the game at one run aside before the walk-off home run.

Noah Song got the start for the Spinners and he was solid once again. He faced the minimum and went two innings, allowing just one hit and striking out one - giving him a total of seven in his first three professional starts.

He was piggy-backed by Yusniel Padron-Artilles, who once again spun a gem of his own on Monday night. He tossed five shutout innings, allowing two hits, walking two and striking out nine - one short of his career high of 10 that he collected back on July 2 vs. Vermont.

Spinners outfielder Gilberto Jimenez also saw his hitting streak come to an end at 13 games, despite seeing his teammates collect nine hits in the losing effort.

Lowell looks to get back to their winning ways when they take on Tri-City in game two of three at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. First pitch is at 7:00 p.m.
