Lowell Spinners News Release
BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Going into Friday night's game in Brooklyn, the Lowell Spinners (10-3) were looking to extend their winning streak to eight games, but they were unable to do so falling to the Brooklyn Cyclones (8-5) in 11 innings at MCU Park.
In the 11th inning and the game tied at four runs aside, Luke Ritter gave the Cyclones their fourth consecutive victory in extra innings.
The Spinners got on the board first when Joe Davis singled through the left side of the infield, scoring Gilberto Jimenez from third base and giving Lowell an early 1-0 lead. The Spinners got on the board again in the top of the fourth when Wil Dalton tripled to deep centerfield and later scored on a wild pitch with Jonathan Diaz at the dish.
Brooklyn scored three runs in the following two innings, however, with one coming on a double by Luke Ritter, scoring Zach Ashford from first base, and another on a two-run triple by Ashford, scoring Jake Ortega and Anthony Dirocie, giving the Cyclones a 3-2 lead.
Going into the bottom of the ninth inning, it wasn't looking good for the Spinners who trailed the Cyrlones 4-3. Nick Northcut, however, led the inning off with a walk and was immediately removed in favor of speedy pinch-runner Kervin Suarez. Suarez advanced to second a wild pitch, and later moved up one more base on another wild pitch.
Jonathan Diaz followed with a double, scoring Suarez easily and tying the game at 3-3. Diaz moved up to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ricardo Cubillan, giving Lowell a 4-3 lead.
The Cyclones tied it up with two outs in the bottom of the ninth when Luke Ritter launched a home run over the left-centerfield fence.
Spinners starter Yasel Santana kept Lowell in it early, earning a no-decision in the game. Santana went five innings, allowing a career-high nine hits. He also struck out seven batters and walked none.
