Omaha Lancers News Release
RALSTON, NE - Steven Spinner extended his point streak to seven games as he scored his fifth goal in five games but the Omaha Lancers fell just short as the Youngstown Phantoms hung on for a 2-1 victory in front of another sellout crowd of 3,538 at Ralston Arena on Saturday night.
Taylor Best got the scoring going for Youngstown late in the second period from the top of the offensive zone circles. James Nenadal took the puck and found Best who cut through the slot and ripped a shot off the left post and into the net, beating Lancers goaltender Kris Oldham for a 1-0 lead with only 3:25 left in the second period.
Just 5:47 into the final period of regulation the Phantoms scored the eventual game winning goal on their sixth power-play of the night. Tyler Sheehy and Ryan Lomberg worked the puck at the top of the offensive circles letting a shot go that went wide of the net. Alec Vanko was waiting on the side of the net and played the puck immediately by Kris Oldham for a 2-0 lead at 5:47 of the third period.
Omaha finally solved Colin DeAugustine with exactly eight minutes remaining in the game. Will Borgen sent a pass to Matt Joyaux who stepped into a shot that was stopped by DeAugustine, however the rebound was gathered and sent in by Steven Spinner to split the deficit in half. Joyaux and Borgen were given the assists on Spinner's 22nd goal of the year at 12:00 of the final frame.
In the end, Omaha pulled goaltender Kris Oldham for an extra-attacker but couldn't force overtime as the Phantoms held on for the 2-1 win. Omaha outshot Youngstown 36-33 in the loss.
The Omaha Lancers are back on the road Tuesday night as they make the short trip to Lincoln for a matchup against the Stars. Can't make it? LIVE coverage of the game begins at 6:50PM CST with the Valpak Pregame Show on The Mighty 1290 KOIL, www.mighty1290koil.com, and www.fasthockey.com.
