State College Spikes News Release
(STATE COLLEGE, PA) - The 2008 State College Spikes home opener will feature an additional twist this year with the Opening Day Carnival on June 19th. The carnival will take place in Porter Gardens at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The festivities will start at 11:00 a.m. and will run through 1:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
"What better way to kick-off the summer and the beginning of the Spikes season?" said Rick Janac, General Manager of the State College Spikes. "School is out, and this is a great place for parents to bring their kids and have some extra fun at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park before the game."
The carnival will feature fun games specifically geared for children and the bounce house from the S&A Homes Kids Zone will be open. Ike the Spike will be on hand, along with his friend the Nookie Monster, to greet the carnival guests. In addition, ballpark food and merchandise will be available for purchase throughout the event.
The Spikes will open up the home season later that night, with former Penn State star and current Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson throwing out the first pitch. The Spikes will face the Jamestown Jammers (Florida Marlins) with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. The first 5,000 fans will receive a 2008 Schedule Magnet presented by PSECU, and all fans will be able to enjoy the first post-game fireworks show of the season.
Tickets are now available for the home opener, as well as the rest of the 2008 season. For more ticket information, call 877-99-SPIKES, visit www.statecollegespikes.com or go to the Box Office at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
