State College Spikes News Release
STATEN ISLAND, NY - Matt Curry, Adalberto Santos and Jhonathan Ramos each represented the State College Spikes and the Pittsburgh Pirates organization well at the 2010 New York-Penn League All-Star Game, but three eighth-inning runs led to an American League victory over the Spikes and the National Leaguers, 4-3, on Tuesday night at Richmond County Bank Ballpark.
Lowell Spinners shortstop Jose Garcia drove in the eventual game-winning run with an RBI single off Brooklyn Cyclones closer Ryan Fraser in the eighth to clinch the AL victory, their second in a row in the NYPL's Midsummer Classic.
Ramos did his part to help the National League's cause with a scoreless sixth inning, earning a hold for his efforts. The left-hander allowed two hits, but also struck out one.
Curry earned the start at first base for the NL All-Stars, and received two at-bats in the game. Santos replaced Williamsport left fielder Miguel Alvarez, whose solo home run in the second inning was the only long ball of the game, in the fifth and went 0-for-1 with a walk.
The three Spikes will rejoin their teammates on Wednesday as the Spikes welcome in the Jamestown Jammers for the first game of a three-game set at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The 7:05 p.m. matchup will feature right-hander Zack Von Rosenberg (1-6), who was scheduled to make the start on Sunday against Aberdeen before that game was canceled due to rain, going for State College against Jamestown right-hander Josh Hodges (2-2).
There will also be plenty of fun, family entertainment options awaiting them at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, starting with Half-Price Wednesday, presented by Froggy 101. Fans can get into the game with half-price Outfield Bleacher tickets, then enjoy half-price select domestic beer drafts from 6-8 p.m. and half-price medium sodas all game long. The first 1,000 fans through the gates will also get the opportunity to let the Spikes keep them warm all year long with a Spikes Soup Bowl Giveaway.
