State College Spikes News Release

BATAVIA, NY-The State College Spikes scored early and often as four Spikes pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout in a 7-0 win over the Batavia Muckdogs at Dwyer Stadium on Tuesday.

State College (35-36) scored a pair of runs in the first, and added two in the second and three in the third to bring home the win. Craig Parry knocked in three runs with a pair of doubles in the game, and 2009 team MVP Brock Holt went 3-for-4 with two RBI in the game.

The Spikes' offense was backed up by a superior pitching effort. Pirates' 12th-round draft choice Jeff Inman, in his first professional appearance, started and went two innings, allowing just a pair of hits. Jason Erickson (3-2) came in next and allowed just one hit over four innings, retiring the first ten hitters he faced. Erickson also struck three as he picked up the win. Nathan Baker and Mike Williams finished up the shutout in the final three innings for the Spikes.

Batavia (36-35) starter Joe Kelly (2-3) took the loss after allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits over four innings in a game that took just two hours, 14 minutes to play.

Wednesday, the Spikes continue their season-ending road trip by starting a three-game series with the Williamsport Crosscutters at Historic Bowman Field. The 7:05 matchup will feature State College right-hander and 2009 Spikes Pitcher of the Year Kyle McPherson (3-3) going against Williamsport right-hander Siulman LeBron (4-5).

Fans can catch all of the action on the Spikes Radio Network and flagship station 3WZ at 95.3 FM starting at 6:50 p.m. with the Spikes GameDay Show live from Historic Bowman Field.

The Spikes' radio broadcast can also be heard worldwide through the "Listen Live" link on StateCollegeSpikes.com, provided by 95.3-3WZ.
