State College Spikes News Release
STATE COLLEGE - The State College Spikes battled back from a 5-0 deficit to tie the game going into the ninth inning, but the Jamestown Jammers scored four runs in that frame to take a 9-5 decision at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on Thursday night.
Down by five going into the bottom of the fifth, the Spikes (2-5) produced a pair of runs when Kyle Saukko and Justin Bencsko notched back-to-back RBI singles. In the sixth, three straight walks by Jammers (4-3) pitching opened the inning, allowing Walker Gourley's infield fly and Gift Ngoepe's double to plate three more runs to even the score, 5-5.
However, Jamestown took advantage of a leadoff walk by Noah Perio and an error by relief pitcher Sandobal Septimo (1-1), putting together three straight extra-base hits and an RBI groundout to produce the final margin of victory.
State College reliever Jhonathan Ramos, making his first appearance with the club, pitched three scoreless innings from the sixth to the eighth, allowing only a walk while striking out three.
Septimo took the loss after allowing Jamestown's four runs in the ninth inning, striking out one batter in the frame.
Jamestown reliever Isaac Morales (2-0) picked up the victory, allowing one run on one hit and two walks over three innings of work. Morales also struck out six batters.
Sequoyah Stonecipher led the Jamestown offense, going 3-for-5 with an RBI double as part of the Jammers' ninth-inning surge.
Friday, the Spikes finish up their five-game homestand with the back half of their two-game set with the Jammers, scheduled for 7:05 p.m. State College will send right-hander Brooks Pounders (0-1) to the mound for his Medlar Field at Lubrano Park debut. Pounders took the loss against Williamsport on Sunday, but allowed just one unearned run over four innings of work.
Jamestown will respond with right-hander Albaro Estevez (0-1), who allowed five runs, four of them earned, on five hits and three walks in a loss to Mahoning Valley on Sunday.
It will be a 4 for $44 Friday at the ballpark, presented by US Foodservice, with fans able to purchase four Diamond Club seats, four hot dogs and four small sodas for just $44. Additional packages are available for just $11 each. Fans can also enjoy a spectacular postgame FIREWORKS show, presented by the PA Lottery on FRITOS Family Friday and Bald Eagle Area Community Night.
In addition, the winning name in the "What If Night" fan poll will be unveiled during the game. On August 27th, the Spikes will assume one of the four runner-up names in the original Name the Team contest: Anglers, Coalys, Furnace or Haymakers.
The winning nickname will be honored with a logo and specially-designed jerseys, which will be worn by the players during the August 27th game and then auctioned off to fans in attendance that night. The Jersey-Off-The-Back auction is presented by Ameriserv Bank and all proceeds from the auction will benefit the Centre County United Way.
Fans can catch all of the action on the Spikes Radio Network and flagship station 95.3 FM 3WZ starting at 6:35 p.m. with the Spikes GameDay Show live from Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
The Spikes' radio broadcast can also be heard worldwide through the "Listen Live" link on StateCollegeSpikes.com, provided by 95.3 FM 3WZ.
