Spikes Beat Black Bears 10-6
Gray Smashes 6th Homer of the Season
GRANVILLE, WV - The West Virginia Black Bears lost 10-5 Monday night at the hands of the State College Spikes.
West Virginia jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Bligh Madris knocked in two runs with a stand up double to centerfield. Madris was brought home when Tristan Gray smashed his sixth home run of the season to right field, giving West Virginia a 4-0 lead.
The Black Bears held a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning before Bligh Madris struck again and hit a solo home run into the right field bullpen to put West Virginia up 5-3. The Black Bears surrendered their two-run lead by giving up five runs in the top of the sixth. The Spikes increased their lead to 10-5 by tacking on two runs in the top of the seventh.
Julio De La Cruz drove in a run with a single to center in the top of the eighth. Hector Quinones dropped to (0-1) in tonight's loss. The Black Bears (35-31) will take on the Spikes (35-31) tomorrow night at 7:05 PM.
