BURLINGTON, VT -- With the Lake Monsters clining to a one-run lead late, relievers Josh Reagan and ichaael Danielak retired 12 of the final 13 Ironbird batters to preserve a 3-2 Vermont victory over Aberdeen in New York-Penn League action Sunday evening at historic Centennial Field.

The Lake Monsters led 3-0 in the top of the sixth when the Ironbirds scored two runs on a walk and three singles to knock Vermont starter Argenis Blanco out of the game. With runners on first and second with no outs, Reagan came on to record two straight strikeouts before Aberdeen loaded the bases on a fielding error by shortstop Ryan Gridley.

But Reagan struckout T.J. Nichting to keep the Vermont lead at 3-2 and then retired the Ironbirds 1-2-3 in the seventh including a strikeout to end the frame. Danielak took over to start the eighth inning and retired all six Aberdeen batters he faced including one strikeout in each inning for his second save of the year.

Aberdeen starter Zac Lowther had retired the six Vermont batters of the game before a James Terrell leadoff single in the third and two straight walks loaded the bases with no outs. Will Toffey lined Lowther's first pitch to leftfield for a sacrifice fly to give the Lake Monsters a 1-0 lead.

Greg Deichmann then led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a groundball triple over the first-base bag and, after a Jordan Devencenzi walk and stolen base, scored on a Hunter Hargrove RBI groundout to second base. Devencenzi advanced to third on the groundout and scored when Terrell executed a perfect suicide squeeze bunt on the first pitch he saw for the 3-0 Vermont lead.

Ryan Ripken and Luke Ringhofer had the back-to-back RBI singles in the sixth for Aberdeen before Reagan and Danielak shutdown the Ironbirds over the final four innings. The Lake Monsters bullpen has now allowed just one run on 12 hits with one walk and 22 strikeouts over their last 22 2/3 innings of work dating back to Wednesday at Lowell.

Blanco (5-6) was charged with the two runs and scattered nine hits over five-plus innings to earn the victory, while Lowther (2-1) three runs on three hits with four walks and six strikeouts over five innings for the loss. Lowther had entered the game with just five walks issued over his first 39 1/3 innings.

Vermont (37-28) have won four of its last five and 10 of its last 13 games overall, while Sunday's win improved the Lake Monsters to 14-13 in one-run games, 9-1 on Sundays and 8-1 in the final game of its nine homestands this season.

With a 4 1/2 game lead and a majic number of seven to win the Stedler Division, the Lake Monsters head out on a six-game roadtrip beginning on Monday at Brooklyn. The 7:00 pm game against the Cyclones will be broadcast live on Sportschannel New York (SNY), the home of the New York Mets.
