Spikes at Scrappers Tonight

State College Spikes News Release
-SPIKES LOOK TO EVEN SERIES: The State College Spikes take on the Mahoning Valley Scrappers tonight in the second game of a three-game series. The Spikes trail in the all-time series, 17-14, and have won just four of 16 games played at Eastwood Field.
-LAST NIGHT: State College faced a seven-run deficit after six innings, but nearly came back to win before falling, 7-6, to Mahoning Valley at Eastwood Field. Five errors by the Scrappers helped the Spikes get back into the ballgame late. Miguel Mendez went 2-for-3 with two RBI, becoming the first Spike with a multi-RBI game this year.
-McPHERSON LEAPS INTO ACTION: Left-hander Michael Felix makes his return to the mound in a Spikes uniform tonight. Felix last pitched for State College in 2007, when he went 2-1 with a 5.26 ERA for the Spikes as a reliever. Felix began this year with Advanced-A Lynchburg, for whom he made seven appearances.
-SCRAPPERS SEND GUILMET TO HILL: The Scrappers send right-hander Marty Popham to the mound for his first start as a professional. The 20th-round selection of the Indians in the 2008 Draft, Popham went 1-1 with one save and a 0.78 ERA out of the bullpen for the GCL Indians last year.
-SANCHEZ TAKES FAREWELL TOUR: This series is the last that Tony Sanchez will play with the Spikes. After attending the banquet for the 2009 Coleman Company Johnny Bench Award (an award for which he is a finalist), Sanchez is headed to Single-A West Virginia to continue his professional development. The Boston College alum got the night off last night in the Spikes' defeat.
-IT KEEPS GOING AND GOING: Spikes outfielder David Rubinstein extended his Spikes record on-base streak to 24 games last night. The streak is the longest active run of its type in the New York-Penn League.
-OFF TO A FLYING START: Opening Weekend drew a total of 10,079 fans to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, setting a new team attendance mark for the first two games of a season.
