Binghamton Senators News Release
INGHAMTON, NY â The Binghamton Senators announced today that the Ottawa Senators have recalled center Jason Spezza from Binghamton (AHL) on an emergency basis. The club only has 11 healthy forwards available tonight entering their match-up against the Florida Panthers.
Spezza, the Senators' first pick (second overall) in the 2001 draft, has 19 goals and 27 assists for 46 points in 36 games played with Binghamton, placing him first in team scoring and third among AHL rookies. Today's recall to Ottawa is his third of the season. He has recorded four goals and six assists for 10 points in 19 games played with Ottawa this season.
In his last stint with Ottawa, Spezza was recalled from Binghamton on an emergency basis on Feb. 13 for injured Radek Bonk (back) and played in two games recording no points - against Edmonton (Feb. 13) and at Toronto (Feb. 15).
In his first call-up with Ottawa on Oct. 23, Spezza played his first 17 NHL games recording 10 points (4-6), a minus-seven +/- rating and six penalty minutes. He was returned to Binghamton on Dec. 2.
The Senators, now in second place in the East Division for the first time since January 12th, play just two games this weekend. Saturday, the club heads to Syracuse for a 7:30 faceoff against the Crunch. The Sens then return home Sunday, February 23rd, for a 5:05 draw against the East Division-leading Bridgeport Sound Tigers (NY Islanders). Tickets for this, and all remaining home games, are on sale now at all Tickemaster outlets, the Arena box office, the Center Ice Team Shop at Metrocenter, or by calling the Sens Hotline at 722-SENS (7367).
