New Goalie Tandem To Backstop Sens
February 20, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Binghamton Senators News Release
The Binghamton Senators announced today that they have recalled goaltender Simon Lajeunesse from Peoria (ECHL) and signed goaltender Andrew Allen to a professional tryout agreement.
With All-Star Ray Emery on suspension and Mathieu Chouinard out indefinitely due to injury, the Sens were forced to overhaul their look between the pipes heading into the weekend.
Lajeunesse appeared in four games with Peoria, recording a record of 2-2 and a goals against average of 2.01. In 13 games during his previous stint in Binghamton, Lajeunesse was 5-3-1 with a 2.68 goals against average. His last appearance in a Senators' uniform was January 11th as Binghamton defeated Springfield, 5-4, at the Arena. Lajeunesse stopped 31 of 35 shots for his 5th win of the year. He was assigned to Peoria January 13th and received a one-game recall February 8th when Emery was recalled by Ottawa (NHL).
Allen, 26, has split the season between Dayton and Trenton, both of the East Coast Hockey League. In 23 games combined, Allen posted a record of 8-9-5 with a 3.01 goals against average.
Allen tied an ECHL mark with his third consecutive shutout in Trenton's 4-0 win over Greensboro February 14th. He finally allowed his first goal in four starts with the Titans when Johnstown's Philippe Roy scored a power play goal at the 14:47 mark of the first period Sunday. Allen's shutout streak of 197:14 is the second longest in Titans' franchise history.
The Senators, now in second place in the East Division for the first time since January 12th, play just two games this weekend. Saturday, the club heads to Syracuse for a 7:30 faceoff against the Crunch. The Sens then return home Sunday, February 23rd, for a 5:05 draw against the East Division-leading Bridgeport Sound Tigers (NY Islanders). Tickets for this, and all remaining home games, are on sale now at all Tickemaster outlets, the Arena box office, the Center Ice Team Shop at Metrocenter, or by calling the Sens Hotline at 722-SENS (7367).
