Windsor Spitfires News Release
(Sault Ste Marie, ON) -- Blake Speers scored three times as the Greyhounds topped the Spitfires 6-4 on Sunday afternoon in front of 4,311 at the Essar Centre.
Ryan Foss (5), Trevor Murphy (10), Ryan Moore (4) and Slater Doggett (13) scored for Windsor (11-18-0-1), which wrapped its three-game Northern Ontario road swing with just a single win.
Murphy and Moore's goals came in a 1:13 stretch early in the first and staked the visitors to a 3-1 lead after 20.
But the ice titled in favour of Sault Ste Marie (24-6-0-2) from there.
Bryan Moore and Jared McCann each scored their 11th goals of the season, in a span of 48 seconds, before the midway point of the second to even the game at 3-3.
Speers took a Zachary Senyshyn pass and scored his second of the game at 6:48 of the third, giving the home side its first lead of the game.
Doggett's 13th of the season tied the game, as the 20-year-old centre converted on a shorthanded penalty shot after he was hooked on a breakaway at 10:28.
But the Greyhounds took the lead for good during the same penalty via Moore's second. Speers rounded out the scoring with his third of the game and 16th of the season, just 25 seconds later.
Joseph Raaymakers earned the win (19 saves), replacing Brandon Halverson at 7:45 of the first.
Alex Fotinos made 29 saves in a losing cause.
The Spits return home for their next game, as they host the Saginaw Spirit December 18th.
