Toliver Snags Player of the Week Honors Sparks 2013
Kristi Toliver added yet another highlight to her outstanding 2013 season on Monday, earning Western Conference Player of the Week for the first time this season and second time in her career. In two Sparks wins last week, Toliver averaged 21.5 points, including 28 in Los Angeles' 94-72 win over the Indiana Fever on Friday. She also went a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line in those two games. To keep her charity stripe streak going, Toliver added another two free throws against Seattle last night and has hit every one of her last 14 attempts dating back to August 8. Through 26 games, she is the Sparks second leading scorer at 14.6 points per game and her 38.5% shooting from three-point land is the sixth best mark in the league.
After a 77-57 loss to Seattle on Tuesday, the Sparks remain a half game back of first place in the Western Conference and will look to secure its playoff spot in a two-game homestand beginning with the Tulsa Shock on Sunday, August 25 at 5:30 p.m. The Sparks faithful will once again be needed when Los Angeles welcomes Tulsa to STAPLES Center to avenge its August 2 loss to the Shock and take a 3-1 advantage in the season series. The Connecticut Sun, the Sparks last visiting Eastern Conference opponent in the regular season, enters STAPLES Center on Tuesday, August 27 trying to avoid a series sweep. The last time the two teams met, Toliver recorded a career-high nine rebounds along with 19 points in the Sparks 74-72 win in Connecticut on August 6. Both games can be seen locally on TWC SportsNet. WNBA Official Meet & Greet
