Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
(SUGAR LAND, Texas) - The Sugar Land Space Cowboys donned tropical-themed jerseys Saturday night, winning their second in a row against the Las Vegas Aviators.
All but one player in the Space Cowboys logged a hit in the 6-3 victory at Constellation Field.
The Space Cowboys secured a series win over Las Vegas, which entered in first place of the Pacific League's West Division.
Taylor Jones, who continued his Major League Rehab Assignment with a start in left field, drove in the Space Cowboys' first run of the night with a first-inning RBI single. Jones drove in Jake Meyers, who got the start at designated hitter to continue his MLB Rehab Assignment. Meyers went 1-for-5 on the evening and Jones finished 2-for-4 with a double and RBI.
Jones' single tied the game at 1-1 and the Space Cowboys would not trail again for the rest of the game. They scored three in the fourth on an RBI double from Enmanuel Valdez, RBI single from JJ Matijevic and sacrifice fly from Alex McKenna.
The Space Cowboys added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh on an RBI single from Alex De Goti and a passed ball that scored David Hensley. Cesar Salazar went 3-for-4 with a run scored in the win.
For the second straight night, the Space Cowboys bullpen navigated a combined scoreless effort. Nick Hernandez (1.1 IP), Josh James (1.0 IP), Enoli Paredes (1.0 IP) and Ronel Blanco (1.0 IP) finished out the game behind starter Brett Conine. Blanco picked up his second save in as many nights.
Conine struck out six batters through 4 2/3 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits.
Mickey McDonald went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in the fifth for the Aviators.
The tropical-themed jerseys worn by the Space Cowboys in the win were silent auctioned throughout the game, benefitting Candlelighters. Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Family Alliance provides emotional, educational and practical support to families of children with cancer.
The Space Cowboys and Las Vegas finish out their three-game series at 6:05 p.m. on Sunday at Constellation Field. JP France is scheduled to get the start for Sugar Land.
