Zebulon, NC - The Salem Red Sox snapped a five-game losing skid by running past the Carolina Mudcats 12-3 in front of a sold-out crowd of 6,871 on Wednesday night at Five County Stadium.
Salem (4-10, 45-38) pounded out 19 hits to halt the Mudcats' winning streak at three games. Carolina drops to 9-5 in the second half and 41-43 overall.
Will Roberts (3-5) was knocked around for nine runs on 12 hits in four innings. Brandon Workman (6-4), backed by his club's offensive explosion, tossed six innings. The right-hander allowed three runs on nine hits. Michael Gleason pitched the final three innings to earn his third save of 2012.
The Mudcats were led offensively by Giovanny Urshela. The third baseman clubbed his sixth home run of the year, and drove in three. Tony Wolters and Ronny Rodriguez had three hits apiece.
Salem put five runs on the board in the first and the fifth to seal the victory. Every member of the Sox's starting lineup recorded a base hit.
