Everett AquaSox News Release
EVERETT, Wash. -- The Everett AquaSox (18-9, 34-31) extended their lead in the West Division to four games by shutting out the second place Eugene Emeralds (14-14, 38-27) for the third time this season 7-0, their sixth victory over the Emeralds in their last eight meetings.
Sox starter Cameron Hobson (2-2, 1.95 ERA) went five scoreless innings for the second consecutive start against Eugene while striking out six. Hobson has allowed two earned runs in his first three minor league starts while amassing 17 strikeouts in the 14 total innings.
Five different Frogs combined to drive in the seven runs for Everett, including an RBI triple by center-fielder Nathan Melendres in the sixth inning and a solo shot by designated hitter James Wood in the seventh. Melendres is now tied for the league lead in triples at six and Wood has hit eight home runs at home this season, the most on the team.
The win is the fifth shutout of the season for the Sox, the second most shutouts by any team in the Northwest League. Everett will look to complete the series sweep as the two teams match up right-handers Stephen Landazuri (4-3, 4.55 ERA) and John Barbato (1-3, 4.91 ERA) at 7:05 p.m.
