Vancouver Canadians News Release

(Volcanoes Stadium - Salem, OR) - Canadians starter RHP Kramer Champlin couldn't get out of the 1st inning on Monday as the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes pounded out 16 hits on the night to top the Vancouver Canadians 14-5 out at Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer, OR.

The Volcanoes would put up four runs in the bottom of the 1st inning that showcased a trio of players hitting triples off of Canadians starter RHP Kramer Champlin who suffered his second straight loss on the season. LF Shawn Payne, SS Joe Panik and RF Brett Krill all grabbed RBI triples before interim manager Rich Miller dipped into his bullpen.

Salem-Keizer would take a 6-0 lead before Vancouver got on the board in the top of the 4th inning. 1B Kevin Patterson smacked a one-out double to center field before coming around to score on a single off the bat of C Garrett Maines. LF Steve McQuail had also singled in the inning and came around to score when SS Andy Burns grounded out to 3B Garrett Buechele to cut the Volcanoes margin to 6-2.

Salem-Keizer's offense just kept coming in waves as they built a 9-2 lead before Vancouver managed a run in the top of the 6th inning. 1B Kevin Patterson hit a tall, towering home run over the right field fence off of reliever RHP Matt Graham to help the C's to within six, but the proverbial 'wheels would come off the bus' shortly after.

A five-run bottom of the 6th inning saw ten hitters come to the plate including 3B Garrett Buechele who hit his 5th home run of the summer off of Canadians reliever LHP Shane Davis to open up a gapping nine-run lead.

Vancouver would grab a pair of runs in the top of the 7th inning that included RF Matt Newman hitting his 3rd home run of the summer off of Volcanoes reliever RHP Matt Graham making the final 14-5.

With the loss, Vancouver falls to 10-17 (.370) on the second half of the NWL season and fall eight games back of the West Division leading Aquasox who topped Eugene for a second straight night with a 7-0 win on Monday night in Everett, WA.
