EVERETT, Wash. - The AquaSox (5-9, 34-20) were defeated by the Hawks (10-4, 24-30) by a score of 3-2 Thursday night at Everett Memorial Stadium, despite out-hitting Boise, 10-4.
AquaSox starter Steven Ewing pitched well, reaching the seventh inning and allowing just two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out seven batters. The 20th-round draft pick in this year's draft breezed through Boise's lineup, except for Dan Vogelbach, who went deep twice on the left-hander.
The Sox took the lead first with a run in the first inning. Marcus Littlewood connected for a double down the right-field line, and Zunino brought him home on a fly ball off of the center field wall.
Vogelbach's first home run came in the top of the second to tie the game at 1-1.
The Frogs regained their one-run advantage in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by right fielder Alfredo Morales. Catcher Mike Zunino scored on the play after reaching on a line-drive single and getting into scoring position with his first stolen base of the season.
Boise tied the game at 2-2 in the seventh when Vogelbach led off the inning with his second solo shot of the game, and fourth longball of the series. After the home run, AquaSox reliever Mark Bordanaro relieved Ewing.
The Hawks carried their momentum into the eighth, scoring their third run of the game to take a 3-2 lead they would hold. Boise outfielder Izaac Garsez led off the inning with a triple, and scored the run on a sacrifice fly.
The AquaSox will look to pick up a win Friday night in the final game of the five-game series with the Hawks, before traveling to Spokane to begin an eight-game road trip. Right-hander Dylan Unsworth (5-0, 3.28 ERA) will start for the Sox, and will be opposed by right-hander Ian Dickson (3-3, 4.50 ERA) of Boise.
