Everett AquaSox News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - The AquaSox suffered a tough loss Friday night at Memorial Stadium, losing to the Canadians by a score of 4-3 despite out-hitting the C's 13-3. Every starter in the Sox lineup checked in with a hit, including Mike Zunino and Taylor Ard who both went 3-for-5 with a double.

Left-hander Rusty Shellhorn (1-1, 2.87 ERA) started for the AquaSox and pitched well despite earning the loss. Shellhorn, the Mariners' 31st-round pick in this year's draft, struck out eight batters in 4.2 innings and gave up four runs, but none of the runs were earned as the defense behind him committed three errors.

A 13-pitch battle between Shellhorn and Vancouver third baseman Kellen Sweeney in the fifth inning resulted in a two-out, two-run home run that proved to be the difference in the game.

Sidearmer Grady Wood tossed 3.1 innings of hitless baseball to keep the game close, racking up six strikeouts in the process, but the Frogs were thrown out at the plate twice in the sixth inning and again in the eighth, diminishing their chances of a comeback.

Vancouver starter Eric Brown (2-4, 7.07 ERA) tossed five innings to earn the win.

The two youngest players in the Northwest League are set to start Saturday night at Everett Memorial Stadium as the AquaSox (2-2, 30-12) look to take the second game of the three-game series against the Canadians (3-2, 25-17) . The Sox will send out Victor Sanchez (5-1, 3.70 ERA), and will be opposed by Roberto Osuna (0-0, 0.00 ERA) of Vancouver who will make his first appearance with the club.
